What is mixed width flooring?

Mixed width flooring, also known as random width flooring, tends to be a top choice for flooring design for clients that are looking to add visual intrigue to their space. For this design, the hardwood planks are installed in alternating patterns, creating a unique design that provides character. Mixed width flooring usually incorporates up to three different plank sizes such as 4”, 6” and 8” or 6”, 8”, and 10”.

While our specialty is wide planks and long lengths, we ensure to carry a variety of lengths and widths to fit any interior design style clients have in mind. In fact, we’ve found that mixed width flooring is ideal for clients that are struggling to decide between installing narrow or wide planks.

Is mixed width flooring right for your space?

As flooring plank widths can make a noticeable difference in how your room can look and feel, its important to note this when selecting your flooring. When you install new hardwood floors, you are doing so with the expectation of keeping them in place for years. That is why we here at Gaylord Hardwood Flooring want to help guide you through this important decision.

 Random Width Floor

We know that you want to install the best hardwood floor that suits your needs and your preference. In order to do this, you need to begin by asking yourself some questions, such as:

  • What do I want my home to look like?
  • What is most appealing to me?
  • Am I working with a large or small space?

Next, you’ll want to look online for inspiration. We recommend Houzz, as well as Pinterest, for countless interior design ideas. Using these platforms will allow you to narrow down the colour of hardwood you prefer, the variance in plank width you favour, as well as the overall look of the space you are designing.

Now that you’ve done these first two steps, the third step is scheduling an appointment with us. We’ll show you flooring options, provide you with samples so that you can see your hardwood selections in your own space, and can even help you choose a professional installer. Its time to take the next step in finding your forever floors. You’ll be happy you did.
